Psychotherapy Explained

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help you with a wide variety of mental health and emotional challenges. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so you can function better, increase your feeling of well-being, and begin your recovery journey.

Approach

I apply a variety of psychotherapy approaches and adapt the approach to fit the needs of my clients.

I've found the following psychotherapy approaches to be highly effective, and I apply them while working with clients:

  • Client-Centered Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Gestalt Therapy

Psychotherapy Sessions

Psychotherapy sessions are typically held once a week for 50 to 60-minutes. Clients share personal feelings and thought in an open and supportive environment.

Psychotherapy can be short-term (a few sessions), dealing with immediate issues, or long-term (months), dealing with long-standing and more complex issues.

Benefits

Psychotherapy can help eliminate or manage troubling symptoms so you can function better, increase your well-being, and recover.

Issues helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life, the impact of trauma, medical illness, or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental health issues, like depression or anxiety.
